St Roch Art Walk

For several years the FSRIA hosted monthly volunteer events to pick up litter and remove blight throughout the neighborhood. Our new project is revitalizing the St Roch Avenue neutral ground - also known as the St Roch Art Walk. The Department of Parks & Parkways manages all the neutral grounds in New Orleans because these are in fact parks. The St Roch neutral ground is a beautiful and walkable 15-block path in the center of the neighborhood that spans from the St Roch Market, past the St Roch Cemetery, through the St Roch Park, and reaches the Florida Canal. Parks & Parkways is working alongside the FSRIA and volunteers to maintain the Oak trees and landscaping.

While the city is trimming the Oaks and cutting the grass, the volunteers are maintaining the plant landscaping: planting, weeding, and watering. Each volunteer has a small section to oversee and some sections are open to their choice of plants or flowers. We now have a plot of native Louisiana plants and a pollinator garden! Keeping the landscaping healthy will help the Oak tree roots to breathe and the soil to drain from our heavy rains.

If you want to volunteer with a little bit of gardening please let us know.

Original Design

In 2013 Parks & Parkways coordinated with a volunteer group to redesign the neutral ground into the St Roch Art Walk.

Doing Great

Unique granite stone benches, Muhly Grass, Palmettos, and Jasmine are some of the landscaping that makes this a great pathway.

Needs Help

Over the years, some of the vegetation has died away and needs revitalization. Residents are joining the effort to plant again.
